Frequently Asked Questions
Why do you use email 2-factor authentication instead of SMS?
We currently use email-based 2-factor authentication as our primary security method. While we plan to add additional options like SMS and biometrics in the future, email provides a secure and accessible starting point. To ensure you receive our authentication emails, please mark them as "Not Spam" or add us to your email whitelist.
What security measures do you use to keep information safe?
We implement multiple layers of security using Amazon Web Services (AWS):
- All data is encrypted at rest using AWS-managed encryption keys
- Documents stored in AWS S3 are encrypted
- Our databases are not publicly accessible and are only available through secure server services
- All communications are encrypted using SSL/TLS, ensuring your data is protected during transmission
Do you use end-to-end encryption?
No, we don't use end-to-end encryption. This is because our service needs to make your information accessible to your chosen LifeProxys℠. We use AWS Key Management System for encryption/decryption. True end-to-end encryption would require your LifeProxy℠ to have physical access to your device and its encryption keys, which would be impractical for our service model.
What is a LifeProxy℠ and why do I need one?
A LifeProxy℠ is a trusted person you designate to access your information, either now or in the future. This could be your spouse, children, lawyer, or any trusted individual. You can grant them read-only access to your information immediately, or set up delayed access that only activates after you pass away or become incapacitated.
How can a LifeProxy℠ access my information when it's time?
After creating their account, your LifeProxy℠ has two access options:
- Read-only access: They can immediately view your information but cannot make any changes
- Delayed access: You set a waiting period (immediate to 30 days). During this time, they can see your account but not its contents. They must request access, and the information becomes available only after the waiting period ends, unless you cancel their request.
What is a LifeByte℠?
A LifeByte℠ is a fundamental unit of your Estate Profile. It represents any item you own or lease, along with important documents and instructions. Each LifeByte℠ is a distinct entry in your profile, and it's crucial to include all relevant items to create a comprehensive record.
Do I need to store sensitive information as a LifeByte℠?
No, you don't need to store sensitive information if you prefer not to. While we maintain robust security measures, you can choose to keep sensitive documents in physical storage (like a safe or bank lockbox) and simply record the location and access instructions in your LifeBytes℠. This way, your LifeProxys℠ will know where to find important information when needed. This hybrid approach of digital and physical storage works well for keeping your information organized and up-to-date.
